Home / Accomodations

One of the vital aspects of this Institute is the chance for participants not only to meet every day as a group, but also to enjoy study and leisure time together. We believe you will get the most out of this Institute experience by living in close proximity together, and to that end we are offering housing at one of the University of Kansas’ dormitories. The dormitory is within walking distance of our meeting space in Spencer Research Library or campus buses run regularly. Single rooms will be available from Sunday, June 11 to Saturday, July 1, 2017 at a rate of $35.50 per day.  The rooms are furnished with beds and desks and are air conditioned (a must for Kansas summers!) and have high-speed internet connections. Coin operated laundry facilities are located in the basement of the dorm and each floor has a communal study lounge that can be used for eating together, discussion or watching television.  If a participant chooses not to use university lodging they can contact us and we will provide information about local hotels near KU.

Daily “Lunch Discussions” are an important part of our Institute curriculum and will be enjoyed at the Kansas Memorial Union, a short walk (or even shorter bus ride) from Spencer Research Library. Lunch will be available for purchase from The Market, a cafeteria featuring chain, as well as self-branded menu items. The dormitory cafeteria, Mrs. E’s, has a dining charge of $25.75 per day. This includes all meals (and all you can eat).  Additionally, Lawrence boasts a wealth of delicious, yet inexpensive restaurants, featuring a vast array of world cuisines, the majority of which are located in the charming downtown area. Campus and city buses run regularly to and from downtown. Participants will be provided with lists of inexpensive restaurants, grocery stores and convenience shops nearby.

Because our Institute will focus a good deal on new technologies, specifically digital technologies, participants are strongly encouraged to bring a personal laptop computer. Participants who do not own a laptop computer will have access to one during the Institute. Our Institute room, libraries and housing are all internet compatible.
